What is Emotional Freedom Technique and Meridian Energy Therapy ? |
Meridian Energy Therapy (MET)
MET is fairly new to the UK. It is a form of psychotherapy, and it has proven to be very effective at treating mental, emotional and physical issues in 2 or 3 sessions. Types of MET include Tapas Accupressure Technique (TAT), Emotrance, and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) which was developed by a Psychologist called Roger Callahan and has been well publicised by Paul McKenna in his TV shows and books. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) EFT is also a type of Meridian Energy Therapy and has been described as a form of emotional/mental accupuncture. However instead of using needles, the accupoints are tapped lightly using two fingers. EFT was developed and introduced in the 1990's by Engineer Gary Craig. It can be used for just about everything from phobias to road rage. EFT has been the number one choice of treatment for war victims in Kosovo, and is used regularly with war veterans in USA. It often works when nothing else will! How does it work? It works by literally tapping into the body's energy system. This is made up of hundreds of meridians, which are channels one third of the size of a human hair. These channels carry an electrical charge around the body. It is thought that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. The Stress Response The Amygdula is a small part of the brain that is responsible for the stress and anxiety response. For example, if we have a spider phobia, seeing a spider of even thinking about a spider can trigger the stress response within our bodies. This causes a chain reaction of chemicals and hormones to be released, making us feel shaky, naseaus, sweaty, hot and cold etc. Research has shown that by tapping on various accupoints on the body, vibrations are sent along the meridians to the amygdula and actually turns the stress response down a bit like a dimmer switch. The good news is that once the response is eliminated it is usually long lasting if not permanent. History It is believed that Neolithic people of central europe 5000 BC, used Meridians and acupuncture points for healing. In 3000 BC - The Yellow Emperor developed the practice of Acupuncture. 1960 - 1970's Work was developed by several Doctors and Psychiatrists which explored the body's energy system and how it could be used to aid mental health problems and general health. In 1979 the Psychologist, Roger Callahan applied his techniques with his client with a severe water phobia. He achieved instant and permanent results and this lead to the develoment of Thought Field Therapy. In the 1990's - An engineer by the name of Gary Craig, worked with Callahan and developed Thought Field Therapy making it simpler with impressive results. He created Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and in 1997 introduced it to the world. www.emofree.com |
